Matthew Hanrahan is a Principal Consultant with MRC McLean Hazel. He is a Civil Engineer with 15 years experience in transportation and traffic engineering. An Australian citizen, Matthew has previously provided services across traffic engineering, transport planning and asset management disciplines in the Local and State Government sectors, as well for the private consulting world. Prior to joining MRC McLean Hazel, Matthew's recent roles have included Manager - Transport Systems Planning, and Assistant Director – Urban Congestion Taskforce within the Queensland State Government. In these roles, Matthew has worked across a range of public transport planning projects including heavy rail, light rail and bus planning projects. Matthew's skills include implementing strategic transport planning, corridor planning, travel demand management and pedestrian/ cycle planning. He has represented Government on numerous steering committees and project representative groups for significant transport infrastructure projects and takes great pleasure in seeing the fruits of these labours being delivered into the existing environment. Essential to Matthew's success is his capacity to understand the dynamic interpersonal relationships that exist within Government and the identification of business solutions which align with the strategic objectives of clients.

On a personal level, Matthew spends most of his spare time tending to the needs of his young family and is excited by the thrill and opportunity of raising children in Edinburgh and the UK, hoping that the family can take a few quick trips to mainland Europe in the process. A passionate fan of athletics in particular and running in general he spends most of his daydreaming hours wishing he was fitter and better at sport than he is. He supplements such physical activities with reading, a bit of writing and a whole lot of listening to music – both recorded and live varieties.
