The Seven Deadly Wins
Although every city and community has unique characteristics there are certain principles that span geography and culture and are fundamental to the success of any built area. We call these principles the ‘Seven Deadly Wins’. They are derived from worldwide investigations of best practice and from our own experience. We aim to incorporate the ‘Seven Deadly Wins’ into our regeneration and development solutions.
The Seven Deadly Wins outline the importance of balancing space and movement within cities, communities, and new developments.
We found in our international work that the most successful and sustainable settlements demonstrate some or all of the Seven Deadly Wins and have comprehensive, long-term and consistent approaches to managing mobility. They have developed ways of influencing both supply and demand for transport, and recognise the importance of cost, reliability and quality of service to individuals.
Both usable public space and movement of people and goods are vital to the local economy and quality of life. Failure to balance these competing requirements leads to congestion and inaccessibility of jobs and services.
Using the Seven Deadly Wins template, we can help cities and communities learn from the successes (and failures) of other global cities, and make informed choices as to their future. The Seven Deadly Wins are:
- Maximise exchange space.
- Maximise the productivity of movement space.
- Find the right exchange space/movement space balance for your city.
- Create enjoyable exchange spaces; maximize chairs.
- Provide high quality arrival points.
- Provide a user focused, seamless and valued mobility system for your city.
- Develop integrated and effective governance.
We can provide advice and help with ensuring that your city, community or new development gains the benefits of incorporating the Seven Deadly Wins principles.
