Beth Garner presents in Ajman
28/03/2011
The 5th Ajman Urban Planning Conference ran from 21st to 25th March at Ajman University in the United Arab Emirates. The theme of this year's conference was "City Identity in the 21st Century". Beth Garner, senior consultant at MRCMH, attended the conference and presented on the topic of "Success and Identity through Transport". Her presentation was well received and led to a discussion about how transport and land use planning should be integrated.
The conference was very insightful and included presentations from some very distinguised names in architecture such as Daniel Libeskind and Mario Botta. There was a good level of debate regarding why and how city identity and heritage should be protected in such a rapidly developing city. The conference also covered a range of more practical issues including: designing out crime and the use of 3D laser scanning to build a record of heritage buildings. Delegates were also treated to some fantastic evening entertainment - a trip to the 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa was a personal favourite!
