Fiona Blackley attends Delivering Better Places symposium
29/09/2011
From Tuesday 27th to Thursday 29th September 2011, Fiona spent her time surrounded by architects and urban designers at the 2nd Annual Design Skills Symposium Scotland held in Stirling and organised by Architecture and Design Scotland.
The formal sessions of the Symposium included some truly inspiring presentations by Ben Hamilton-Baillie and David Sim of Gehl Architects, as well as the launch by Historic Scotland of their new publication New Design in Historic Settings.
The more informal workshop sessions involved small groups working on design proposals for the regeneration of different sections of Stirling city centre. Fiona's group developed an urban design proposition for the currently-ill-defined hill-section (see image) bounded by Stirling Castle at the top and the main retail area below. The group was made up of participants from different professional fields and with differing levels of experience in urban design concepts, which led to a well-rounded and carefully thought-out proposal to re-ignite different activities and functions in this part of the city.
