What Price Accessibility?

08/02/2012

On Wednesday, Beth headed down to London  to attend a CILT conference which was focussed on the issues surrounding accessibility of transport for both disabled users and the elderly.  It was an excellent turnout with people from across the transport sector - including consultancies, the DfT, local authorities, transport operators, and various user groups.  The conference was really open and interactive, ensuring that lots of opinions were heard.  We discussed specific topics of rail and bus accessibility, as well as the future of concessionary fares.  We also began to explore the wider costs and benefits of accessibility and considered how future needs of an ageing society may be meet.  I came away having learnt more than I expected to, and look forward to being able to implement some of the ideas in future projects.
