The CIVITAS Initiative helps cities to achieve a more sustainable, clean and energy efficient urban transport system by implementing and evaluating an ambitious, integrated set of technology and policy based measures.

Based upon “testing Innovative Strategies for Clean Urban Transport for historic European Cities”, RENAISSANCE will design and demonstrate large scale measures supporting urban quality, mobility, accessibility and heritage of historic cities.

The Project consists of 30 partners from throughout Europe, and is focused on four demonstration cities:

                                                    • Bath – UK

                                                    • Perugia – Italy

                                                    • Szczecinek – Poland

                                                    • Gorna Oryahovitsa – Bulgaria

                                                    • Skopje – Macedonia

The RENAISSANCE Consortium cities differ in size, national status, political governance and social and economic integration within the European Union. They are however, bound by the desire to develop a valuable, reliable and integrated package of access and mobility measures that not only recognize and respect environmental concerns but also enable sustainable development of the local economy. These measures will provide a tool kit and act as a catalyst for other European cities to develop as part of their transport policy initiatives.
