MRC McLean Hazel has been working on the development of proposals to regenerate Dundee Railway Station and its surrounding environment, in the context of the wider redevelopment of the Dundee Waterfront area. The main train station for the City of Dundee is located on the periphery of the Waterfront development site and the aspiration is for the creation of a new high-quality city gateway at the station.
The first stage of the study addressed feasibility and the wider context for the station redevelopment. The study concluded with a number of potential options for future design progression, one of which was taken forward to create outline proposals for a new station building. The proposals include renewal of the platform levels, the street-level concourse and the external public space.
In order to connect the station with the new Waterfront area and the rest of the City Centre, significant attention is being paid to the treatment of the area directly outside the proposed station building. This will provide a new public space and a serve as a vital link between this key transport gateway and the city that it serves.
