Metrolinx Regional Transport Plan
The new Greater Toronto Transportation Authority was established in 2006 to provide an integrated framework for transport management in this substantial region with a population of 6 million.
Over the next 25 years this figure is expected to increase by a further 2.5 million, and the transport infrastructure will need to be developed and managed to support this growth. A much greater focus on sustainable transport and development planning will be required. The Transportation Authority (now branded as Metrolinx) has an immediate priority to develop a Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) which is “a blueprint for action over the coming 20 – 30 years: action which adds up year after year to a more sustainable transportation system”.
MRCMH is supporting our Canadian parent company MRC and other members of the consultancy consortium preparing the plan for Metrolinx. We are carrying out an assessment of international best practice in relation to key sustainable transport topics to ensure full awareness in Toronto of the lessons learned in a Europe. MRCMH are also bringing together a number of European sustainable transport experts to participate in a workshop and public presentation that will initiate a major public consultation on a draft Plan.
