Steve Cassidy is Managing Director of MRCMH's subsidiary company MRC-Europe. He has a background in academic research, private sector marketing for a multinational technology solutions provider, and transportation/urban technology consultancy. Steve’s work builds upon his PhD research on the assessment of travel behaviour, and has focussed upon the design and evaluation of transport and eGovernment policy in the achievement of sustainability, social inclusion and accessibility related objectives. His research expertise covers: (i) strategy/business model development; (ii) socio-economic impact assessment/evaluation; (iii) user requirements/acceptance research (especially with marginalised groups); (iv) consensus building techniques; (v) qualitative and quantitative market research.
His clients include national and local government in the UK, European Commission and private sector manufacturers. Whilst at Transport Studies Group, University of Westminster, he designed and implemented a large scale monitoring and socio-economic evaluation programme for the EC ROMANSE Project. He subsequently undertook a range of intelligent transport system related projects, including feasibility studies and usability research of travel information systems (West Yorkshire PTE), and the development of an intranet based travel information systems to support travel planning (Nottingham City Council/Boots plc).
Steve developed a unique expertise in ticketing and smart card related media when he headed a consultancy/strategic marketing team for the world’s then largest smart card provider. He led the exploitation of the high profile EC multi-application smart card Project SmartCities, and has developed smart ticketing business cases for the Scottish Entitlement Card, Dundee City Council, Perth City Council, Sheffield City Council and the Black Country Knowledge Society.
Steve was a Member of the UK Department of Transport’s Expert Panel on Green Travel Plans; external auditor for the UK Office of the Deputy Prime Minister’s National Smart Card Project (Business Model); seconded Project team member to the CEN-ISSS standardization workshop on multi-application smart cards (MMUSST); external PhD/MPhil examiner at Loughborough University (Geography). He has presented and published many conference papers and refereed journal articles.
