Andy Watt is a Director of MRC McLean Hazel. He has thirty years experience dealing with a wide range of roads related activities. His first degree was in civil engineering but, having become Chartered, he moved into the fields of traffic and transportation. This included eleven years with Lothian Regional Council before moving into the private sector, where he gained experience with several practices before becoming a Director with Mclean Hazel which has now become MRC McLean Hazel.
Andy does a lot of work advising developers, land owners and other interested parties about the traffic aspects of potential development. He has built up a significant expertise and reputation in this market and also gives evidence on such matters at Public Inquiry when required. This requires a broad understanding of relevant planning and transportation policies and legislation.
With a particular historical interest in road safety matters founded on his experience with LRC and research for his Masters degree, Andy has utilised this expertise in private practice. This has included preparing traffic calming schemes, accident remedial measures and road safety audit work as well as lecturing on these topics. Within the academic sector he currently provides a part-time course in transportation for post-graduate students of urban design, at the School of Architecture, Edinburgh College of Art.
Beyond the working environment Andy is a keen rugby follower, a dedicated Francophile and, consequently, a truly amateur oenophile. As a pastime he likes working with stone. He is married to Kerry and has four grown-up children.
